In 1970, Liz Callaway saw a musical that would change her life forever– Company, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, at the Alvin Theatre. A decade later, she would make her Broadway debut Merrily We Roll Along, written by the same composer, directed by the same director (Harold Prince), and opening at the same theater.

Hawley, PA - Liz Callaway & Joseph Thalken: From Broadway to Hollywood

Liz Callaway is a Tony and Grammy nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist. She made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. Off-Broadway she received a Drama Desk nomination for her performance in The Spitfire Grill (Playwrights Horizons), and also appeared in Brownstone (Roundabout), No Way to Treat a Lady, Marry Me a Little, and Godspell. Ms. Callaway has also established a major career as a concert and recording artist.  The award-winning Sibling Revelry (created with sister Ann Hampton Callaway) was presented to great acclaim at the Donmar Warehouse in London. Boom!,a celebration of the music of the 60’s and 70’s, also created with her sister, was recorded live at Birdland, and is currently touring performing arts centers around the country. She received an Emmy Award for hosting “Ready to Go”, a daily, live children’s program on CBS in Boston.  Other TV credits include “In Performance at the White House”, “Inside the Actor’s Studio: Stephen Sondheim”, “Christmas with the Boston Pops”, and “The David Letterman Show”. Liz has released eight solo albums. Her latest, To Steve With Love: Liz Callaway Celebrates Sondheim, was nominated for a 2023 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Her numerous other recordings include Sibling Revelry, A Christmas Story – The Musical, and The Maury Yeston Songbook

 

Joseph Thalken is an award-winning composer, conductor and pianist whose theater and concert works have been performed internationally. His music has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Somerled Charitable Foundation and the Shen Family Foundation. Thalken is the composer of the musicals Harold and Maude, Was, Borrowed Dust, Fall of ’94, and Inventions for Piano. His chamber orchestra ballet, Chasing Home, commissioned by Bruce Wood Dance, is receiving a world-premiere recording  by the Dallas Chamber Symphony, conducted by Richard McKay. He has served as music director and/or arranger for luminaries of Broadway and classical music, including Julie Andrews, Patti LuPone, Bernadette Peters, Renée Fleming, Rebecca Luker, Kristin Chenoweth, Liza Minnelli, Faith Prince, Michael Crawford, and Brian Stokes Mitchell, among many others. He performed with the New York Philharmonic for their 2019 Spring Gala, for which he also wrote several orchestrations.

We look forward to enjoying a day of golf and tennis with special guests from the entertainment industry, all joining together to raise funds for the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey.

We also come together to honor the memory of Jock Duncan Jr. who passed away in 2023 at the age of 88. Jock served as a Fund trustee for 13 years and lead by example, believing we should all strive to do the very most possible with our individual abilities and talents and to have love and compassion for others. He taught us all the value and importance of having a positive attitude, whatever the situation.

We are honored to continue the tradition of this event in Jock’s name and look forward to seeing you there.

John participated in a live Playbill concert event in Times Square welcoming everyone back to Broadway, featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jessica Vosk and Senator Chuck Schumer. McDaniel produced and directed a virtual concert of Sticks & Stones, for which he is also the composer, starring Audra McDonald & Javier Muñoz. He is also a camp director of Kristin Chenoweth’s Broadway Boot Camp. John directed Into The Woods & Hair in Concert at the historic Patchogue Theater, Sondheim Originals at 54 Below and Piano Men at Birdland. The performance celebrates The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Broadway impact, both past and present, and raises money for scholarships and educational initiatives at CCM. Featuring 100 current CCM students from musical theatre, dance, and orchestral studies, as well as an all-star lineup of alumni, this one-night event honors Stephen Flaherty, CCM alumnus and Broadway composer of works such as Once on This Island, Ragtime, and Anastasia.

Liz Callaway is a Tony nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist. She made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers, and The Look of Love.

Liz sang the Academy Award nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature Anastasia and is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return of Jafar. Other film work includes the singing voice of the title character in The Swan Princess, Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, Beauty and the Beast, The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars and The Rewrite with The Hugh Grant.
